XP will sometimes auto-install an incorrect device driver there, creating a
conflict. If you see something wrong, either 'Uninstall' or 'Disable' it. My

</span>By disable/re-boot/enable sequence, you deny XP the chance to slip its
own conflicting device driver in at start-up. It cannot load it because you
disabled the port. Check the windows startup log to look for clues. <span

the other program to finish, or close the other program."<span

class=SpellE>rebott</span> the PC, and enable the com port in order for it to
